Chad Casselman, Operations Manager

I am the Operations Manager at Native Forest Nursery. My role includes responsibility for all aspects of the nursery’s operations, such as managing the company’s finances and overseeing the work of each hard-working team member here at the nursery. I also have a very active role in the sales and marketing of the plants we grow. I began my career with NFN in June of 2016. My entrepreneurial spirit brought me here, as well as a sincere desire to work with companies and organizations that are in the business of improving our natural environment.

My favorite part of working at the nursery is serving our customers. We work hard to grow the best plants and provide the best service. It is extremely gratifying to hear about our part in our customers’ successes, as well as having a chance to utilize their constructive criticism to improve what we are doing. The end of the day is my favorite time of day here, after the employees have finished their day, when I get to walk amongst the crop with no agenda. I love to let my mind wander on things we could be doing differently to improve our operations as I stroll around this beautiful piece of land.

To me, the concerted effort to grow the best possible root systems and the most vigorous plants possible makes our trees superior. You can either get what nature gives you, or you can get what you set your mind to produce in cooperation with nature. Our teams are dedicated to doing the extra work it takes to implement best growing practices, because we all have seen and believe in the difference they make.

Outside of work, I enjoy spending time with my family, especially in the Adirondack Mountains of New York. We enjoy backpacking, white water rafting, fly fishing, hunting and camping. We also enjoy traveling to visit our extended families and friends scattered around the eastern US whenever we are able.
